Back the “Aim For The Heart” Kickstarter Campaign!

What time is it? IT’S KICKSTARTER TIME!

You’ve heard “All For One!”; now get ready for “One For All!” Duck Prints Press is thrilled to bring a whole new meaning to the Musketeers’ famous slogan in one inclusive book with a little bit of something for everyone: Aim For The Heart: Queer Fanworks Inspired by Alexandre Dumas’s “The Three Musketeers.” For this collection, we recruited 20 authors and 16 artists who love Athos, Porthos, Aramis, d’Artagnan, Milady, Madame Bonacieux, and the whole gang from Dumas’s wonderful historical melodrama. These creators’ mission was simple: take this long-adored story and make it queer! The result is an amazing collection of works exploring the nuances of these characters, delving into issues of identity, gender, and sexuality—telling and retelling a story we all know and love.

If you’ve ever looked at The Three Musketeers and thought, “huh, idk, that’s kinda gay…I wish it was more gay,” then you are NOT going to want to sleep on this anthology. We’ve been working on this amazing project since last fall, and we are over. the. moon. to finally be bringing it to y’all. Each story is up to 5,000 words, and each artwork is black-and-white/grayscale and full-page. There’s even a 12-page comic!

Follow our page on Kickstarter for teasers, reveals, and more, and make sure you join us on social media so you can learn about our other projects, too!

The Kickstarter to print these gorgeous A4 books and to make our awesome, campaign-exclusive merch (a bookmark, a magnet, an enamel key chain, and a die-cut sticker!) is running now through July 15th, 2023. There’s also a lot of add-ons, featuring once-it’s-sold-it’s-gone-forever books and merch from our past campaigns! Don’t miss out!

anyway we dont talk enough about jon baa-ing like a sheep in mag125. cause he was literally just sitting in his office recording a statement and he baa’d exactly like a sheep. and he sounded REAL AS HELL. archivist voice powers must make you insane at making farm animal sounds for like teaching babies like you just know he would tear it up at daycare. this is all right in the middle of everyone thinking he’s turned into an evil monster too but my god did the man commit.

mag200

okay one thing that has WILD implications in this episode is that we the audience hear bagpipes during the statement. this isnt season 5 where we’re just hearing domain sounds, jon is literally still just in his office. sometimes in tma we hear sounds as part of the soundscape that arent actually there in story but it is usually extremely subtle as to be almost unnoticeable if you’re not listening with good headphones, but the bagpipes come through so clear. i can think of two in-story explanations:

  1. jon knew what the statement was gonna be about and queued up some bagpipe music to play from his phone/laptop while he was reading, knowing it would be picked up by his tape recorder
  2. jon’s archivist powers are now so strong that sometimes we (and anyone in-story listening to his recordings i guess) simply hear shit from the events he’s reading aloud even if we shouldnt be able to
therineye

may i present a third option: melanie was blasting bagpipe music as a form of rebellion whenever she was in the archives and that’s just what we’re hearing

mag200

yknow actually considering she was still being poisoned by the slaughter bullet i could absolutely get into that

when internet people are like “i love gothic literature but i hate anything that discusses incest, sexual violence, oppression, misogyny, abuse, torture, gore, murder, or death”

no actually me and everyone else who’s ever watched crimson peak were brainwashed by guillermo del toro into believing that incest and violence are cool and awesome. sorry

Horrifying that this pearl-clutching over horror actually being dark is unironically becoming A Thing…

The irony of the “umm incest and violence are bad and only evil men would be interested in that 😡” Puritanism being pedaled is that it guarantees that only men get to write about anything taboo and thus dark media is overwhelmingly misogynist.

It’s genuinely sickening how much vile harassment marginalized artists get for making anything darker than Owl House or whatever the Kids Cartoon De Jour is, because these people know how much easier it is to destroy an artist’s life if they’re already marginalized in some way.

girlcalledwhatsername

Ohh this exactly ^^

Marginalised people (women included btw) are always always held to a much higher standard even in terms of respectability, policed often by members of their own community in a bid to appear more respectable, policed by supposed leftists who don't want to feel the slightest bit of discomfort to their protected conservative worldview which they never questioned, and at the end of it all privileged men are always going to be the only ones writing any controversial genre fiction because that's not gonna be a "hard sell" because no one's coming after them or anything. And so horror remains misogynistic and racist because the moment there's anything actually horrifying, nuanced, or unsanitized entertained in fiction by a marginalised person there's an angry horde with pitchforks already gathering at their window for it
